Drinking Right 2

Once again, upon returning home from Papa's I get requisite, "So, what did you talk about?" from the wife.

"Lots of stuff. Idol, football, politics, kids . . . the usual."

"Who was there?"

"Chris. Had a nice blouse on though I couldn't peek down it. Fred, Steve, AB, Chad, though Holly wasn't there. Probably hard for her to be around me."

"Why?"

"She wants me. I can tell."

(Long pause)

Anyone else?"

"Leah Vukmir."

"Who?"

"Leah Vukmir. Representative for the Tosa area. She was making eyes at me."

"So, what about her?"

"She's hot."

"What. Did. You. Talk. About. ?."

"Nothing. I wasn't sitting at her table."

"Anything else?"

"Chad was telling me about a movie he saw with . . . people, I guess, that were called "howlers". They had the ability to make your eyes bleed with their voice. I told him I knew someone like that."

(long pause)

"I'm going to bed."

"What?"

Drinking Right

After the every Drinking Right, a monthly meeting of conservative bloggers and such . . . every second Tuesday at Papa's Social Club . . . my wife asks, "what did you talk about?"

Well, since I've been going (about 6 or 7 months now) we talk about a lot of things . . . except politics. Sports, Idol, 24, kids, geek stuff . . . a lot of geek stuff . . . personal anecdotes, blogging, news, and some politics. Occasionally, some local political type will show up to talk about . . . everything but politics.

And so it was this past Tuesday where topics ranged from sober sex in relationships to clumsy kids to posting wifey pictures to leasing dates to napping while piloting to concerts n the 80's to our eventual communist rule. Oh, there was something about the DPI candidate . . . Fraley . . . schools . . . elections . . . I don't know. I'm supposed to vote early and often. That's all I know.

Point is, we're there to have a good time, relax, have a few drinks, and solve the world's problems. We always have a better idea about how things should be. We're always smarter than everyone else. And, we're always right. That's why it's called "the right".

I could prove this with the Drinking Right Quotes that someone is supposed to post . . .

Ah well. A couple of things . . . Chad brought along his doubtedbynickthatsheevenexisted fiance Holly. Very nice. She fit right in. I even witnessed her punching Chad once. Good girl. Anyway, noobs are always welcome. Especially the curvy, soft, cuddly variety of the opposite of man. Holly more than makes up for having to look at Chad.

Also, Chris and the AsianBadger are both nice peoples. They really don't want anyone knowing this, but I feel it needs to be said. As snarky, smart assy, off putting, rude, obnoxious, and gruff as they both can be, they're softies down deep. Real deep. Like, bring your own shovel deep.

I jest. Trust me, they're nice. I think anyone in attendance would agree.

So, if you've never attended our little monthly meeting of the minds, you should make it a point to come. We don't even have a secret handshake.

Though, there is a hazing that involves butter and salt.

Drinking Right Christmas Party

I came a little late, but did show up. Most of the festivities had already been fested and all that was left was to cheer the Packers and do a little socializing.

I saw a few new faces and really didn't get a chance to introduce myself. Sorry for that.

A few of the regulars got to meet my wife and daughter. Which had to have been a breath of fresh air for them.

I got to meet SIlent E for the first time, and his lovely wife. It's one of those situations where you feel you've known someone for years, yet never met. I hope they make a few of the Tuesday "meetings".

But, I really have to thank Asian Badger. He made me look good in front of the wife and child. Not that I need any help, mind you, but it came as a nice surprise to my wife. The Badge and I pinky swore to be nice to each other in 2009. Hmm. A few days left.

Nice to see Fred up, around, happy, and healthy. While I share a love of Music with E, Fred and I share back problems.

I don't share anything with Chad, and I think I'm happy about that. Actually, I have to thank Chad. I don't think my wife has ever heard my name yelled out when entering a bar. Ever.

I saw a couple of Obama items that I assume were white donkey gifts. Kinda glad I didn't participate.

See everyone next year! Have a great New Year's holiday!

"You're doing what?"

I'm the kind of person who has one close best friend (other than my wife) and many other good friends. I tend not to go out a lot preferring the company of my wife and/or daughter and the sanctity of home. I don't really go out with "the guys" as I tend to find many of them rather boorish. I'm not a jock head (I watch only football), I thought "Shoot Em Up" was an awful movie, I like my wife, I like my daughter, I don't drink, and I have good taste in women. Sadly, this takes care of a good percentage of men out there of who I can relate to or with.

My wife has a few close girlfriends with families of their own. Every time we get together the guys head to the basement bar, turn on some sport program, and sit around and talk sports and how things used to be before wives and kids. The women are in the livingroom talking about cooking, school, movies and TV, and the occasional bum husband. Me? I'm with the kids in the bedroom or outside. I'm not kidding. Or I'm with the women. Hey, I'm not stupid.

My wife has several close friends. Every week she's usually off somewhere helping, visiting, shopping with, or dining with a girlfriend of hers. She's a great friend. Very willing to help her friends with anything. Caring. Thoughtful. Her friends like her a lot. But, she makes the effort. I don't. I admit to being a little lazy in that regard. I'm too comfortable at home with the family and my sister in law and her family who live 8 houses away.

Anyway, I come home from work yesterday and engage my family in the usual manner. At one point I ask "what's going on tonight?" Jackie, my wife answers, "nothing much. Just cleaning a little." And then I say something she hasn't heard in quite some time.

"I'm going out."

There were two thuds as not only did my wife faint, but my daughter as well. Which tells you just how shocking this statement was.

"Your doing what?" "I'm going out . . . to visit with my geek blogger buddies at Papa's." She knows about the blogging thing but doesn't quite fully understand it. After explaining it a bit more she says "that's great. Have fun."

My daughter, who is 8 and way more in tune with the online means of the world wanted to come along. She sits with me reading Dan's live blog during American Idol. I chat with my daughter from work when she comes home from school (hope my boss doesn't see this). So, again, she's pretty savvy. I tell her she can't go. It's a bar, it's smokey, it's a school night, blah blah blah. Had I known some couple was bringing their infant in to that environment and I might have thought different. For shame!

To keep a long story from getting completely out of hand, I went to Drinking Right at Papa's last night. First time. Fred has been giving all kinds of crap about never showing up even though I live about 8 blocks away. Geez. Anyway, it was great. Nothing new to most reading this but many of the blogs I read were represented. It was a good time. Even Dan Deibert showed up after his live blog of AI. It was very nice meeting the people behind the blogs. We solved some world problems, poked some fun at other bloggers, laughed at the left, cried about the right, and tried to see what Fred was writing all night.

So, in complete contrary to character, I went out and made some new friends. Thanks fellow bloggers. You'll be seeing more of me from now on.
